Scottish
and Southern Energy
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) is one of the largest energy
companies in the UK. It is involved in the generation, transmission,
distribution and supply of electricity; energy trading; the storage;
distribution and supply of gas, electrical and utility contracting;
and telecoms.
Powermann Limited entered into a major projects framework agreement
contract with Scottish and Southern Energy in 2000 which continues
today. We have carried out substation construction, asset replacement
and refurbishment work (predominantly at 33kV) throughout the southern
part of SSEPD’s footprint area for some years now. In addition
we have recently started to undertake similar work for SSEPD outside
of their traditional footprint areas as they seek to build and operate
National Network assets. Traditionally an installation only service,
our relationship with SSEPD has grown to the point where we now undertake
some of the design aspects and in some cases offer a full turnkey
design, supply and install service.
Duration: 2000 to present.
Scope (typical)
Provide layout and protection designs
Supply equipment and materials to SSEPD specification for installation.
Electrical installation, structures, transformers, circuit breakers, relay
panels and cabling
Fitting and jointing construction
Outage management – provision of senior authorised personnel for switching
and safety document issuing.
Protection testing and commissioning (including telecontrol)
Provision of as built drawings, work reports, test reports and test results
sheets.
Equipment installed:
33/11kV transformers – 7.5MVA to 40MVA
11kV circuit breakers (indoor) – 1250A and 2000A
33kV circuit breakers (indoor and outdoor) - 1250A and 2000A, including
outdoor disconnectors, earth switches, VTs, surge arresters and busbar
systems as required.
Cable joints and terminations – up to 33kV
Relay protection and automatic voltage control panels
Tripping batteries and battery chargers.
